Mike Majkowski began his musical studies as a jazz bassist, and has since developed an active interest in a wide spectrum of contemporary music. Mike is a member of the large-scale Sydney-based electro-acoustic group THE SPLINTER ORCHESTRA, is a member of the NOWnow collective, and has worked closely with some of Australia's most highly regarded improvisers - Jon Rose, Chris Abrahams, Jim Denley. Internationally, Mike has performed with well renowned artists such as Han Bennink, Paul Lovens, Michael Moore, Eric Boeren, and Toby Delius.
Rod Cooper - instrument builder, performer, and sound artist.
Although inspiration is drawn from the instruments of other musical cultures, it's the transformation of old concepts into new metallic hybrids that makes his instruments unique in sound and design. By combining three or four essential ideas into a singular complex interface, each instrument has a large range of sounds, incorporating percussion, bowing mechanisms resonant springs and acoustic noise. The hollow metallic construction of his instruments creates a unique timbre. These large sound chambers covered with strings and springs produce an acoustic resonance that is large in scale, a sound that Cooper himself equates to the vast spaces of the Australian landscape.
He performs regularly through out Australia and has toured overseas in the UK, New Zealand, America and Ireland. Other activities include workshops and seminars.
This event has received financial support from the Regional Arts Fund and RADF
